Nico Rosberg stamped his maiden win while taking Mercedes to first victory since 1955.

Shanghai witnessed one of the most close and amazing races in many years but not the last to expect this year. Its once again proved that the new Pirelli tyres and strategies can bring more surprises on a raceday.

At the lights the Mercedes duo of Rosberg and Schumacher got away cleanly to hold off the pack followed by Button, Raikkonen and Kobayashi. Hamilton starting from P7 after a 5 place grid penalty made amazing progress in the early stages to slot into 5th in the opening lap.

World Champion Vettel starting on P11 after a disastrous qualifying dropped down to 14th while team mate Webber in 8th was struggling in the opening laps after losing places. Ferrari's Alonso looked poised by taking on Webber for 8th place but the poor pace of the Ferrari hurdled him as he couldnt progress much.

While the Mercedes of Rosberg started to pull away with Schumacher heading the rest of pack, Webber made an early pitstop for the medium compound rubber on Lap 7. Soon the others followed suit for fresh rubbers as the fresh rubber proved really quick.

The massive shuffling of places and busy pitlanes were interesting to watch. The Mercedes guys looked relaxed for and opted to spend more time on the track.

Schumacher running 2nd, pitted for new tryes on Lap12 and came out on fifth with what looked like a normal pitstop but only for him to stop the car immediately after Hamilton passed him. It was race over for Schumacher due to a loose right front wheel which was not fitted properly during the pitstop. Race leader Rosberg pitted short after and joined in third with Perez on the lead followed by Massa. As Perez went into the pits, Rosberg retook the lead by overtaking Massa's Ferrari and started to carve his own race only to be challenged briefly by Button which was ultimately spoiled by a ugly 9sec pitstop by the McLaren crew.

Rosberg ran a 2stop strategy along with Vettel and Raikkonen while Button, Hamilton and Webber pitted thrice.

With Rosberg on the lead, Raikkonen lead the train of cars from 2nd to 12th. Vettel made much advantage with his 2stop strategy and was running 3rd behind Raikkonen's Lotus. The 3rd pitstop for the McLarens put Button on 5th due to the bad stop and Hamilton to 10th right into the traffic.

During the final stages of the race it was real race for positions with 10 cars fighting for 2nd. Raikkonen running 2nd with a worn out tyres suddenly lost the edge and started loosing places and ended up 12th in the same lap.

Button and Hamilton managed to beat the RedBull of Vettel to gain the podium spots and also Webber on the other Red Bull took advantage of Vettel who was on old tryes.

Rosberg crossed the line to take his first ever Formula 1 victory while also creating history for Mercedes by bringing their first win for the revived team. Mercedes last victory came in 1955 at Monza after which they quit Formula 1 and only to rejoin in 2010.

The Force India of Di Resta managed to finish 12th while Hulkenberg finished 15th. India's Narain Karthikeyan finished 23rd with in his HRT.

It was one of the closest and amazing races in many years and also with only one DNF with Schumacher's pitstop failure.
